E Paganacce

Canon Paganacce was an external curate in Saint Florent.  He was a very cultivated man who gave several conferences about religions.  

  

CARRUGHJU FREDIANU DE VIDAU 

The Vidau family united with the village of Oletta at the beginning of the 19th century and had a house near Saint André’s Church.  There were many marriages and births in the Vidau family in this village.

Frédien Vidau, Maria Lodovica Alessandrini’s husband, was a lawyer in 1779 and then President of the BAR.  He was named King’s Prosecutor in 1782. In 1803 he received the title of Roman Count.

Called at the service of Napoleon’s sister, Elisa Baciocchi, Grand Duchesse of Tuscany, in 1807 in his role as a state Councilor, he was then given the responsibility of reforming the justice system.  In 1814 upon his return to Bastia where the rebellion was rumbling, he was elected president of the “High Committee of the city of Bastia, capital of the Corsican kingdom”. Mayor of Bastia from 1821 to 1828.  Chevalier of the Royal Order of the Legion of Honor in 1821.

CARRUGHJU JEAN FRANCHI

(09.13.1915, Oletta – 21.12.1946, Hanoi)

Jean Franchi was born in Oletta on March 9, 1915.  Lieutenant named A-C of the armored force 25-3-46 of Tonkin.  He had participated in the French campaign of 39-40.  He escaped from prison in 1942.  Organized the resistance against the occupying forces from 1942 to 1943. Joined A.N. again and was assigned to the 2nd DB.  These are the remarks of General Leclerc who Jean Franchi admired.  A volunteer for operations in the Far East.  Killed by the enemy on December 21, 1946 in Hanoi.

On February 27, 1948, Jean Franchi’s father, Dominique received a letter from the General of the SALAN Division in Saigon whose object was the following:  Death of Lieutenant Franchi Jean.  “Sir, in your letter dated November 17, you wanted to ask me for information concerning your son killed in combat on December 21, 1946 in Hanoi. Lieutenant Franchi was the subject of a proposition to nominate him to the National Order of the Legion of Honor posthumously for exceptional war services.  This nomination was granted by the decree of 30.08.1947, published in the Official Journal of 04.09.47.
