REQUIREMENTS TO GET MARRIED
For a civil marriage to take place, the future spouses must meet the following requirements:
- Be of legal age
- Be single, not married in view of French law or any foreign law
- Have no family relationship or close in-law relationship with the other spouse
- Each person must consent to the marriage in a free and clear manner.
PROCEDURE FOR A CIVIL MARRIAGE: ADMINISTRATIVE FORMALITIES TO REMEMBER
A marriage can be celebrated in one of the future spouse’s communities in his/her home or established residence where he/she has lived at least one month before the bans are published.
The marriage can also be celebrated in the community where one of the future spouse’s parents has his home or residence.
SETTING UP THE MARRIAGE FILE
Setting up the file beforehand is essential. The necessary documents may vary depending on each of the future spouse’s situation. You can call the Civil Status Service (Marriages) for further information. The wedding date is set with the service when the complete file is returned by appointment.

The complete file must be submitted to the City Hall of the community chosen for the ceremony at least one month before the date of the ceremony. Confirmation of this and the witnesses for those concerned is demanded 8 days before.
